Obituary of Katherine S Mierzwa

Katherine Sue Abbey Mierzwa of South Dayton, NY passed away on February 8th, 2023 at Brooks Memorial Hospital. Born on June 23rd, 1948 in the town of Cherry Creek, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Abbey and Pauline Storm Abbey Ryder. She attended Cherry Creek School and graduated from Pine Valley. Kathy worked at The Bon-Ton, Gene Heil, and on the family farm. She was known for her amazing cakes, including the ones she donated to the DARE Program for many years while her kids were growing up. She was a member of the Hillside Club and the South Dayton Free Methodist Church for many years. Kathy enjoyed traveling with Tom to watch dirt races and sightseeing. She cherished her family and loved to watch her kids and grandkids play sports. Kathy is survived by her husband of nearly 56 years, Thomas A Mierzwa Jr. Mother of Christopher, Daren (Jessica), and Mathew (Emily) Mierzwa, and Roxann Sprague. Grandmother of Ashley, Alison, Emma, Trevor, Lillian, Joshua, Levi, Evan, and Carver Mierzwa. Great Grandmother of Elijah Crisp. Brothers Keith (Mary Jane) and Kraig Abbey. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Kenneth Abbey, granddaughter Faith Mierzwa, and infant granddaughter Genevieve Mierzwa. Visitation will be observed at Jordan Funeral Home in Sinclairville on Friday February 17th from 5-7 and Saturday February 18th from 10-11, with the funeral to follow at 11.
